On BSOD and Power of Human Intelligence

As we officially bid winter goodbye, let's wrap up with the biggest industry news the tech world has recently seen.

The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) – no, this is not a computer game. If you are a PC user and have not yet encountered this, consider yourself lucky. BSOD is a blue screen displayed by Microsoft Windows if the PC meets a fatal error that it can’t resolve quickly.

On 19 July 2024, the world saw an IT catastrophe that would cost the Fortune 500 companies an estimated $5.4 billion in damages.  CrowdStrike, a US-based cybersecurity firm, released a problematic update for its Falcon Sensor security software that led to BSOD for Windows users who have it installed. The worldwide outage can be compared to the Y2K bug, also known as the “Millennium Bug,” but this time, it happened. Airports, stock exchanges, banking, and emergency services were put on hold until the issue got resolved 12 hours later.

The incident report that followed showed the root cause to be one undetected sensor. A mistake that could have been prevented with some due diligence, and testing before launching.

With today’s modern technologies, such as AI, robotics, and automation, people tend to develop dependencies, and get consumed by the conveniences they bring. But if there is one thing we can learn from this unfortunate tragedy, it's that technology still heavily relies on human intelligence. Technology can’t do everything after all.

Here at ADM, we believe that nothing can replace the power of the human brain, and the value of human interaction. This is why we still have two receptionists answering our phones. At the first point of contact, they can either put you in touch with our product engineers or sales representatives, so you can get the right solutions and product suggestions.

We are scam-resistant because we have a human IT expert who identifies fake emails, flags the Team, and blocks external threats. No security system can ever replicate that, and we'd like to keep it that way. No thanks to AI for making it harder to spot what's fake nowadays!

You have a technical question? If it were AI, you'd find yourself in loops of never-ending suggestions. Why not save time and get in touch with us? You can talk to our Team about your applications, and we can offer you fit-for-purpose solutions.

If we can’t supply you with what you need, we will try to put you in touch with someone who can. That’s just one of the many kinds of services humans here at ADM can do for you.
